Top 10 Books to Motivate You!

Inspired by a posting in our QSC Facebook Group started by Keith Reilly of Straight Talk for Success I decided to search for the top 10 books to motivate you for this week’s Sunday Motivation.

Keith made a very good point… mindset plays a big part in success.

I did various searches including 10 inspirational books to motivate you, 10 business mindset books to motivate you, 10 books to motivate you, etc…  I say thank you to these authors for supplying some good info and came up with my own list, which you will see substantiates  the point that Keith Reilly made…mindset is not only a very big part of success, it is required for success!  (By the way, the book Keith is reading is not on this list but it’s a great book also… “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki.)

So just like David Letterman’s TOP 10…  The Top 10 Books to Motivate You…

#10… The One Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results by Gary Keller

This book is about choosing your one thing in all areas of your life (professional, personal and spiritual) and focusing on that one thing alone. “It is those who concentrate on but one thing at a time who advance in this world.”

#9… Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers

This book is about using your fear to your advantage.  “By reeducating the mind, you can accept fear as simply a fact of life rather than a barrier to success.”

#8… The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

This book is a story about a young boy following his dreams who learns that there are others along the way who can and will help you.  “When you really want something, the whole universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

#7… Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins

This book is about how to take immediate control of your mental, emotional, physical and financial destiny.  “If you can’t, you must. If you must, you can.”

#6… As a Man Thinketh by James Allen

This book is about how your thoughts mold your personality, and how that personality drives you to take action and determines the type of action you’ll take.

#5… Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff by Richard Carlson

This book is about the simple ways to keep the little things from taking over your life.  Gotta love this quote… “Stress is nothing more than a socially acceptable form of mental illness.”

#4… The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale

The book is a practical guide to mastering the problems of every day living and that by being optimistic you will more likely succeed.

#3… The Magic of Thinking Big by David J Schwartz

This book is about how to acquire the secrets of success and achieve everything you’ve always wanted…by dreaming big!  Side note here…favorite quote to inspire your children… Shoot for the Moon… Even if you miss, you’ll land among the Stars!

#2… The Power of Full Engagement by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz

This book is about the key to high performance and personal renewal is not managing your time but managing your energy!

#1… Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

This book is how Napoleon Hill discovered the common thought processes and behaviors of millionaires that led them to their success.  It is the forerunner of all the Law of Attraction books out there today.  “All the breaks you need in life wait within your imagination. Imagination is the workshop of your mind, capable of turning mind energy into accomplishment and wealth.”

So there you have it, my top 10!  Please comment below and add your favorite motivational or inspirational books!

After I did the above list, I said I wonder if David Letterman did an actual Top 10 on the subject.  I couldn’t find one but I found an article by the International Business Times from May 20, 2015 that listed some of David Letterman’s most memorable quotes and I decided to pick a few that fall into the category of motivation…

  • “There’s only one requirement of any of us, and that is to be courageous. Because courage, as you might know, defines all other human behavior. And, I believe — because I’ve done a little of this myself — pretending to be courageous is just as good as the real thing.”
  • “I have found that the only thing that does bring you happiness is doing something good for somebody who is incapable of doing it for themselves.”
  • “There is no off position on the genius switch.”
  • “Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.”
  • “If it weren’t for the coffee, I’d have no identifiable personality whatsoever.”
  • “If what you’ve done is stupid, but it works … then it really isn’t all that stupid.”
  • “I’m just trying to make a smudge on the collective unconscious.”

Great list of books Barbara, exactly what I was looking for when I posed my initial question. I’ve bookmarked this post so I can get back to it.If I buy too many books at once, I never get round to reading them, so I’m buying them one at a time.
BTW, I love one of the quotes at the end – “If what you’ve done is stupid, but it works … then it really isn’t all that stupid.”

There are soooooo many books about this topic out there, it’s really hard to only pick 10! I know what you mean about buying too many books at once, as I have several bookshelves full! I do go to them often and let the spirit guide me as the best one for the current situation. While we are talking motivation, how’s your new fitness program going?

  2. Hello Barbara

A great list of books although I would take issue with Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins as I found this book to be confused and contradictory when reduced to the actions he advises us take.

One of the important points when considering which books to read is to never discount books that are from the pre-Internet era, I have found many books from these early days of marketing to still retain words of applicable wisdom.

Since moving to the dessert, I have read more books this year than I have in the past decade, so will definitely take a look at this list of books.

Hey Igor…I must admit that I do not do as much reading of late but I’m not sure I want to move to the dessert to start! I tend to listen to CD’s alot, especially when driving in the car. Also use them at night when sleeping to let my subconscious mind get fed positive stuff!
